I am proud to announce that the Porsche project is finally live! Together with the advertising agency Carmichael Lynch, we have created a site for a line of Porsche cars, featuring the new Porsche Cayenne GTS.

Capturing the experience of the Porsche Bloodline, powered the concept of this site. With a combination of sound-FX, 3-d graphics and color palette we have created a mysterious environment to compliment Porsche’s seductive speedsters.

It was a challenging, fresh and exciting project for me and the Fi team, and we will be sharing various behind the scenes action here at Think Swedish! We will for example show the “before and after” retouching stages of the photographs – making the eye-candy. We will also take you on a journey of sound, one of the key components of the Porsche Cayenne GTS site, as well as showing the magic behind the 3D-world and video transitions between scenes.

Check the site out and be sure to keep checking Think Swedish for more behind the scenes Porsche action!

Excelent Fi :) little bit dificult from your previous work but very nice. Oh.. and i forgot: sound-FXs are insane :)

Great site indeed. The audio-part is just sublime.

One thing, however. In the 'Audio IQ Test' the message "Correct" is spelled in red letters, and even though it's the color theme used throughout the site, I kept thinking my answer was wrong each time I saw it as that's the normal connection you make whenever you see red typeface.

Looks great as usual, but I receive a Flash Actionscript error when I try to close the browser: [Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2036: Load Never Completed.] Subsequently, Firefox (2.0.0.11) crashes. Just thought you should know in case it's a more common problem.

Its great the way Fi gets to work with these clients and deliver the caliber of work with these details. It is what makes Fi Fi as I understand it. There is few like this company.
5. Yodan     Charlotte, NC,   Tue  29/Jan/2008
Currently in Beijing - checking out the new site. Very good. I like it. Did you play a role in the filming of the commercial? I thought it represented Porshe very well. The site compliments the auto maker. The only thing I would say is. It lacked content - but that is not on you guys meaning (Fi) I wanted a more immersive experience, see exploded viwes of the vehicles. Again, that client would have had to supply the content. Great Job! 2008 looks promissing for (Fi)

You are now working with Carmichael Lynch, are we going to be seeing any projects with Carmichael Lynch / FI and Subaru? I know Carmichael Lynch droped Porsche and gained Subaru . Did you work with Carmichael Lynch or pick up someplace they left off?
7. Kenneth     Spain,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
Nice n' Clean. I like it!
8. Kenneth     Spain,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
@Yodan

Yodan; Do we really have to know your current location everytime you post a comment?
I think mySpace was made for that, not this blog.
9. John     Ohio,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
Very nice and clean. Great landscapes! And unreal sound effects! However, I felt like you should be able to interact with each car more. Other than the little popup and the engine rev what else can you do with each car? All of the pictures are a side view (hard to see) of the cars. It needs a slideshow mode or something for each car. Large, high DPI photos of each car. Pictures! Pictures and pictures! Why else would you go to a Porsche site? Im not sure why they didn't want to incorporate the photos from http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/ in here?
The "full model brochure" link should give some indication it is opening a PDF.

The engine rev'er is really neat.

All and all I would give it a 7 out of 10
Great job, Cheers!

Great site FI!

It's good to see a lot of new work being displayed on the forum. I do agree with Yodan in that the site does lack some content. But like Yodan said its not on you guys to provide/create the content. maybe the client didn't want to include too much content.
11. Dragos     RO,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
@John, man you're way out of this campaign's target. Have you really understood the main purpose of this website/campaign? 'Cause I think you didn't, well in this case you can start your post by saying that everything you'll write it's just you personal inexperienced opinion, and that you write here 'cause you don't have anything else to do. That would be ok.
By my way of viewing thing, this website is a very good campaign to the new Porsche Cayenne GTS, and they made this website just to incite you to see more of this car either form the pdf, either from your local dealer.
The website is an event-website, not a company website where you can find a lot of pictures. It has something unique, like the "hit the gas" button which by the way is really cool, and something extra for the GTS interaction outside the other models (shown just to see where the GTS fits among them, and for the bloodline thing..), and that’s BECAUSE that's the target of this.
As any other website you have seen, also the Audi R8 one, are not providing HI REZ pics, the website has a movie clip, the main area where you interact with the car and DOWNLOAD section, where actually you can get some wallpapers. That’s the pattern in making car event-websites, got it ?

PS Respect others and my time and don't post any other craps here, I’ve spent 10 min to explain you some obvious things here, appreciate this.
12. ricky     -,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
probably one of the best car sites ive seen.
13. untouchables     Slovakia,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
BTW: I can't understand why http://www.carmichaellynch.com/ is so... uuufff... it isn't good. Are they blind? Now they know you and maybe they know what is Internet about now. Any chance you will create new website for Car Michael Lynch? Everything will be better then this :(
14. Ian     UK,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
@Dragos
Why is it wrong for John to have a different opinion to your own? Are you a member of the FI Thought Police or something? People have different opinions, get over it and stop being so precious about it.
15. max     -,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
i like turtles
16. Dragos     RO,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
@Ian - I encourage freedom of speech and personal opinions BUT only when you are advised in the domain you’re bringing the opinion to. You got to have a raised level of knowledge’s in design, web, usability, campaign making so that you can understand what going on. You can't afford to make critics on something that you can't understand or you don't know the way it should be made.

By example after I’ve said my opinion in John’s post, I’ve also reasoned why I said those things and how I see the big picture, tell me if I’m wrong ? Or what I said up there about the pattern of making an car event-website and what’s the purpose of the website ! Have a look around other car-launch award winning websites.

My intention was only to clear that the GTS project has a lot of work in background, a lot of brainstorming and group meetings and it will be a shame to just have a look and remark that are lacks here there…when they aren’t.

PS By your example with Fi staff or Police I figure it out that you don’t get the picture either.
17. untouchables     Slovakia,   Wed  30/Jan/2008
Nice.. FWA for this website :)
18. Yodan     Charlotte, NC,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
@Kenneth - It's a force of habit mate. I am constantly telling my friends where I am, because they always ask. My company send me all over the place. I like representing where I am currently in the world. I apologize if it's an eye soar for you. Word of Advice (Look away!). THe site is great guys, it's what the client wanted. Normally though you associate 3D, exploded views, and high quality pic's, video (i.e) The way 2A did Fords website. This is new for Fi as well. They have nothing of this sorts before. I thought they did a great job.

PS Kenneth - I am still in Beijing.. I might visit Spain one day. Be sure to make it a day to show me around. Eh?
19. ricky     -,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
@John
i think you are missing the entire point of this little master piece by Porsche. It seems clear to me, you sit back and relax while you experience this site. The music, the engine, the small details everywhere, it feels so classy and elegant. The interaction is very polished which makes this site what it is. having to click wheels and other parts of the car is not the meaning of this. To me, this captures my love for Porsche it stands out of the crowd of over flashed and pumped auto sites. Like i said above, probably the best car site out there imho.
20. Yodan     Charlotte,NC,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
@ John, I agree with many of your points. BEST CAR SITE ( Hell No) Look at the Audi site on FWA. Dude your sick. This site is nice and yes it compliments Porsche... But to call it the best. No mate! Get you another Redbull and do somemore research.

21. Yodan     Charlotte, NC,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
Maybe the best Porsche web site! maybe that's what you meant.
22. Ethan     -,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
I like turtles, too!
23. Ian     UK,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
@Dragos

Why is John not allowed to express his thoughts as an end user rather than that of an experienced developer, surely the site was designed and built for "end users" rather than the design community?

For the record I thought John made some valid points as an end user and simply highlighted some features which he felt would make the site more appealing to him.

Anyway I'm sure John is more than capable of talking for himself so I'll leave it there ;-)

Best wishes,

Ian
24. Dragos     RO,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
@ Ian - I hope we will finish up here, as is taking too much space from this blog, and it could be useful in other ways...

On one hand, i said raised level of knowledge’s not "experienced developer" - so get the story right.
On the other hand, as an end user you can express yourself but not criticize and GRADE the website because of your personal needs. You have to know the steps and the way that a website like this is made and it should look (short movie, car interaction, tricky thing, contact and download area – and the difference between them is in design appeal and the tricky thing), then grade it for the use or misuse of the right tools.

And my approach was a constructive one, I was just trying to show John, that are several other car launch websites on FWA for example that are having the same structure, more or less the tricky thing which here was the engine rev tool and the rev engine recognition game. Got it?

Now accept my apologies and let’s get over with!

@Dragos

We're still friends don't worry lol. I like a healthy debate and take your points on board also.

Best wishes,
Ian
26. Dragos     RO,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
About the website !

I was playing around on it and what i found interesting that when you rev the engine, by cliking the button it rev's once with no possibilty to hold down the button keeping the engine at max rpm. That i think would've been nice. A better interaction just like in real world, holding the pedal and keeping it in continous rev.

Best wishes to Fi team and all the blog visitors !
27. namtab     Toronto,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
Really nice, BUT not one of Fi's best works...(don't kill me!!) just being honest.
28. djvillain     webchannel24.com,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
No, not their best work ... it looks very 2A'ish but then again, I think that's just how most car websites look these days so that's cool.

Overall, excellent work as always.
29. john     ohio,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
@ Dragos
I certainly applogoize if my bluntness has offended you. You are right about being misunderstood. I thought the purpose of this forum was to solicit feeback, both good and bad, from FI followers. However, I seem to be misinformed. It now appears that this forum is to solicit postive feedback ONLY, perhaps a priase shirn?

I will refrain from any more comentary, unless of course, it is positve
Cheers!
30. Grunger     -,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
FWA! well done. Site of the month by the looks of it.
31. Dragos     RO,   Thu  31/Jan/2008
@ John

Pretending that you are a lonely little soul victimized by my posts, it a way of getting out this, as being the one who feels rejected. Well that's the way a man with no valid arguments can withdraw from a debate.

On the other hand there are some things you should know about, obviously, you can't make a difference between a forum and a blog. This is a Blog. A rich media blog. The purpose of this blog, and this is my personal opinion, is not a solicitation from Fi for feedback, it’s actually a way of getting in touch with the great team that assembles these projects/website/applications. You can ask for something before you grade a piece of work that you don’t even know by which criteria you should evaluate.

Ask before judge, evaluate before grade and so that you can evaluate something you have to find the criteria of doing that.

Don’t feel yourself offended it’s ok, my guess is that first you need feedback to be able to give one.

PS If it was a 7/10 website, I don’t think it would’ve made it to FWA. Think about that.

Good luck (Chuck:P) !

Really good site! Nintendo one is so different but also really good. Can you also show the details please?

I like turtles too! and Doves (lol)
35. Max     New Zealand,   Sun  3/Feb/2008
Its amazing to see how many people here are keep comparing FI to 2Advanced on every level, its seems so strange that they ONLY compare FI to 2A and not any other major design firms from around the world. People this is not a FI v 2A blog!!! Im kinda getting tired of the comments going back and forwarth comparing both blogs and sites, if you have anything relating to 2A then keep it personal as this is not what this blog is about. Personally i give the Porsche site a 7.5/10, it did leave me felling empty handed and its quite a dark site as well.
36. one_loveu     gz china,   Mon  4/Feb/2008
the website is cool
but i download www.porsche.com/all/bloodlines/usa/flash/stage.swf
(load 100%) can not play
how to do play
thank you
37. KC Hunter     Balimore, MD,   Tue  5/Feb/2008
Sorry, but there is a great deal of similarity between this site and 2A sites. These two firms get the most attention because they are head and shoulders above the rest ... attribute it to quality work and branding. Personally, I think Fi took the lead because I prefer their style and technical abilities over 2A.

BTW, what happened to the last post that was in Korean?
38. Ben     UK,   Tue  5/Feb/2008
On a side note, does anybody here know or could someone from Fi tell me what the dot matrix type font is called on the splash page for the Fi site is?
39. Yodan     Charlotte, NC,   Tue  5/Feb/2008
@ Ben, it's called PHANTOM and it's available at FFF or Fontsforflash.com Good luck mate!
40. dhm     FINY,   Tue  5/Feb/2008
it's called Zado Bitmap and probably a bunch of other names.
41. Tyler     -,   Wed  6/Feb/2008
weaksauce, so why does the text stay "Cayanne GTS" after you have move onto another car anyway? And for that matter, why are there other models? I thought the thing was about the Cayenne... This won FWA? ha
42. Ben     UK,   Wed  6/Feb/2008
Thanks David much apprecaited, I'm a bit of a typography nut and I love this font!
